4 ways to get into The Midst
How to join forces with our microcommunity of women starting businesses, telling it like it is, and midfluencing the modern 40+ experience.
By Amy Schroeder, Founder of The Midst
We’ve evolved since I started The Midst as a half-ass personal blog about My Adventures in Perimenopause years ago. I’m here to lay out what we now offer in a nutshell.
First, what is The Midst?
The Midst is a community-driven platform leaning into the messy middle of life pivots, career and relationship upgrades, hormone changes, building businesses, and so much more. We help you play by your own rules to become the woman you’re meant to be.
How is The Midst different from other midlife publications and platforms?
We’re an active microcommunity of women over 40 who are redefining the modern midlife experience together. We’re not a one-byline brand touting the same message over and over.
We curate stories on topics ranging from aging out of f#cks to upskilling in the entrepreneurial age to the largest collection of Perimenopause: It Happened to Me and We Shall Overcome stories.
As a community, we’re thousands of women around the world who are truly in the midst of one of life’s most complicated, fascinating, and ripe-for-growth periods of life. We virtually high-five each other’s projects, initiatives, stories, and victories.
Option 1: Enjoy our free newsletter
We won’t overload your inbox. We generally send 2 to 3 Substacks per week — most are free and a handful are behind a paywall.
You’ll hear from a collective of hundreds of voices, including:
Lisa Congdon, the self-made artist-designer whose career didn’t take off until she was 40
Geneen Roth, the bestselling author who shares an exclusive excerpt of her book, Love, Finally here.
Simla Somturk, an expert in nutrition for perimenopausal women with autoimmune disorders
Longevity experts like Kayla Barnes, Dr. Julie Fratantoni, Aja Campbell, and Roma Van der Walt
Mental health experts like Jennifer Reid MD, who shares a slice of her book, Guilt Free: Reclaiming Your Life From Unreasonable Expectations
Dana Bowman, author of Humble Pie: Sober Menopause, Sugar Addiction, and the Sweetness of Recovery
Option 2: Access exclusive paywalled content + get featured
Only $6 per month or $55 per year
If you’re ripe to redesign life on your own terms, this is for you. When you upgrade your subscription to The Midst Substack, you gain full access to exclusive interviews with people like Stacy London and series like:

Option 3: Join The Midst Founder network
For founders and entrepreneurial women over 40
Special price until September 2026: $249 for a one-year membership
You may have heard that folks 45+ are the fastest growing demographic to start businesses in the U.S. You may have also heard that we’re living in the Age of AI and that a good portion of Gen X, Millennials, and younger probably shouldn’t rely on a “traditional retirement” from one employer.
These are a few reasons why we’re building The Midst Founder network of solopreneurs, boss women, authors, the entreprecurious, consultants, coaches, community builders, thought leaders, and corporate-ladder climbers who want to start something new.

When you upgrade your Midst Substack subscription to “Founding MidstHer,” we’ll email you to start the onboarding process. Some of the benefits of being part of The Midst Founder network include:
PR: If you’re building a business or project that you want to get in front of smart women over 40, this is it. We’ll feature your story on the-midst.com and in The Midst Substack. In 2025, we generated ~700,000 organic views on these two properties alone.
Promotion: We’ll also feature your product or service in our gift guide and social media.
Half off a ticket to The Midst L.A. event in September 2026.
4. Apply for The Midst Mastermind Cohort 2
Deadline to apply: August 14, 2026
Our program is for 40+ women who are building something — a business, a second act, or a body of work — and want a circle of peers who understand the ambition and midlife context that come with it.
